City of God (originally Cidade de Deus in Spanish) is the superb part of movie production. However, in spite of all its cinematic achievements, the film’s program as an agent of cultural change is very small so. It captures the spirits of its inhabitants across three generations at one of the most hazardous situations that this civilised world had realized.
During the crash of the European Empire, the religion scholar saint (354-430) published the writing titled the city of God at which he identified two “ cities. ” On the one hand there is an earthly city, Which constitutes the path that is driven by self-love and disrespect for God. People of this earthly city are sad and experience despair since earthly beliefs of self-love are indeed twisted and foolish. According to St. Augustine, there exists two cities: the Earthly and the Heavenly city. " two cities have been formed by two loves : the earthly by the love of self, even to the contempt of God; the heavenly by the love of God, even to the contempt of self." (E.E. pg 117) The heavenly city symbolically represents the church, and the Earthly city represents the state.
12 We see then that the two cities were created by two kinds of love: the earthly city was created by self-love reaching the point of contempt for God, the Heavenly City by the love of God carried as far as contempt of self. In fact, the earthly city glories in itself, the Heavenly City glories in the Lord. The former looks for glory from men, the latter finds its highest glory in God, the witness of a good conscience. The earthly lifts up its head in its own glory, the Heavenly City says to its God: â€˜My glory, and the lifter up of mine head' .
Two cities have been formed by two loves: the earthly by the love of self, even to the contempt of God; the heavenly by the love of God, even to the contempt of self. The former, in a word, glories in itself, the latter in the Lord. For the one seeks glory from men; but the greatest glory of the other is God, the witness of conscience. The one lifts up its head in its own glory; the other says to its God, "You are my glory, and you lift up my head." The one delights in its own strength, represented in the persons of its rulers; the other says to its God, "I will love you, Lord, my strength."
Revelation 21:23 "And the city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and the Lamb is it's light". The coming city of God, New Jerusalem will not need any artificial light, no sun (direct light) and no moon (indirect light). The Shekinah glory of God will illuminate every square inch of the New Jerusalem. He that is light Himself, God and the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ Himself provide all the light that is needed. "God is light and in Him is no darkness at all" (First John 1:5). The sun, moon and stars though made by God are artificial, and the electric light made by man is also artificial.
