The Lesson Of The Moth Essay
In this poem “ the example of the moth ”, Don Marquis tells the tale of the moth, an insect that have a weird tradition of being drawn to the bright light. This history is being told by a fictitious cockroach named Archy who is reincarnated writer. The cockroach discovers the moth attempting to get into the light bulb to take the light within; when he asks why he is doing that, This moth makes an incredibly significant message: “ It is better to be the thing of beauty for one moment and so cease to be than to live forever and never be a part of beauty. ” (Marquis 188) . To me, this is nearly what time is about. If we do not have the true reason to go, then it all seems quite meaningless.

“ the example of this Moth ” explains not just reason moths always want to “ immolate ” themselves on lights, but also reveals the belief on living in the humorous way. This moth’s belief ironically sounded reasonable, because to survive without ever having something beautiful is really torture. The intense effects of death with beauty or “ longevity ” without appearance are difficult to get between. This moth also explains how humans used to take “ come easy, get easy ” but have become too polite and stuck-up to love themselves good. The moth gets a real nice twist on a serious topic and still makes the audience laugh while reading it.
